Eloise Grey aims to create a business that promotes sustainable, beautifully crafted textiles and garments. She actively promotes the Organic and Fair Trade textile movement. She is interested in providing quality of craftsmanship and aesthetic in a Fair Trade context rather than purely Organic as a label. Sometimes Organic doesn’t necessarily include fair working practices and pricing and Eloise Grey thinks this is wrong.
Eloise Grey produces her garments in the UK, in England. The tweeds are woven in Scotland. She is interested in the challenges of the Rural Economy and actively seeks local suppliers and likes to work with similar-scale businesses and creative workers in South West Surrey.
Eloise Grey wants the bulk of her costs to be on quality production and fabrics rather than marketing, branding and retailing.
Whilst supporting skills and fair employment she will not compromise on design and quality and hard work. This is fundamental to her proposition but also will support the sustainability of her endeavour.
Eloise Grey uses organic, ethical, local and environmentally-conscious and UK-based suppliers where possible. In detail:
Where she is unable to source ethical or organic she is actively seeking alternatives but accepts that it is a journey.
Eloise Grey wants a business model that is ultimately profit-making so that the business is sustainable. She would like to generate and support employment in the UK and in particular in skills. She will donate 1% of her turnover (irrespective of profit) to organizations that are sympathetic to her ethical policy.
Eloise Grey works to address environmental and social issues on her blog but also at a local level (to South West Surrey), supporting local initiatives and organisations. She actively makes contact with local papers, councillors & parliamentary representatives in order to support issues as they arise.
